So I'm back in Colombia, thirty hours on four different buses from Quito to Medellín. Police checkpoints are searching for drugs and weapons, armed motorcycle patrols are looking for gunmen, it's sweltering hot, one burning tire, and thus a three-hour delay... Also, the beautiful nature full of gigantic rocks, volcanoes, lakes, and mountain jungles. And the wonderful, kind people along the way. In short: typical traveling in South America. :-) This is what emails from the land of magical realism from my friend, bluesman "Matej" Ptaszek, look like. As a schoolboy, he discovered a book about war photographers in his father's library and has dreamed ever since of traveling to countries where something is happening and where it's hot. His dream quietly faded into the background when Matej achieved success as a recognized harmonica player and blues singer, and with understanding and patience, he continued to wait until Matej became a holder of a prestigious international award for harmonica players, wrote a popular harmonica teaching book, recorded several successful albums, and after years of playing in the duo Ptaszek & Beňa, became the leader of his own band, Dobré ráno blues band.
