The book-length interview between Karel Hvížďala and Pavel Landovský was created nearly thirty years ago when both authors were still in exile. In the afterword, Karel Hvížďala recalls how Pavel Landovský arrived in Bonn and immediately took over our entire house. He cooked for everyone, wouldn’t let anyone into the kitchen, took care of everyone in his own way, sharpened knives on the stairs not just for us, but for almost the entire street. He could tell stories for hours, played, jumped on chairs, rolled on the floor, made faces, changed costumes, and pulled on suspenders... An unforgettable performance unfolded before the audience, whom I brought in from the surrounding area just for him to have an audience, and they still remember it today. Fortunately, the actor's rich expression was successfully translated into written language, allowing us to once again recall the extraordinary and charismatic personality of not just Czech theater. Loving Landovský is easy; sometimes it was more challenging to endure his sharp and uncompromising humor, which, however, uncompromisingly revealed every hypocrisy. Pavel Landovský became an acting legend during his lifetime, but for those around him, he was something more – a cheerful and reliable friend, a great storyteller with an unforgettable life philosophy.
