Description

Even if you follow your own tracks, you won't find yourself. A novel about returns and reunions. The main narrative thread is a melancholic story of journalist Pavel Klimeš, who, on the brink of middle age, is getting divorced, losing his parents, and finding himself in a situation that forces him to seek new paths and goals in life. In a suffocating, reflective atmosphere, he turns to memories of a group of friends with whom he spent every summer in childhood at a mountain lodge in the Krkonoš. The figure of his father's colleague Milan Knot increasingly appears in his memories, who once represented a childhood role model for the narrator. In the mid-seventies, however, he indirectly confessed to his friends that he had signed a collaboration with the StB, closed himself off from them for a time, and stopped going on vacations together. After November 1989, Pavel Klimeš obtains convincing evidence of what Knot's collaboration with the StB caused for other visitors to the Krkonoš lodge and publicly condemns him in the newspapers as an agent of the StB. However, with the passage of twenty years, doubts and inconsistencies emerge throughout the story. The book was nominated for the Magnesia Litera 2017 award in the prose category.
