Description
The book Searching for a New Modernity focuses on the 1910s, particularly on four remarkable years before World War I. Its introductory section analyzes the contemporary theoretical discourse in which modern-minded artists and writers clarified the fundamental philosophical and aesthetic frameworks of their work. The second part of the book includes studies dedicated to authors whose works represent various forms of poetics significantly applied during that period. These include Art Nouveau, Neoclassicism, Expressionism, and Cubo-Expressionism, whose concepts are presented through the early works of the Čapek brothers, František Langer, Richard Weiner, and others.
