Description

The second detective novel by the Ostrava writer. The story with a detective plot takes readers into the bleak environment of the Ostrava periphery, where the body of a murdered and professionally dissected man is found. Although the initial clues of the police investigation almost unfailingly lead to a local professional taxidermist, the investigators gradually begin to unravel a complex web among people from completely different social strata. On one side stands the modern 'elite' represented by businessman Gavla and Pavla Bittnerová, against them is gambler Pavel with his sister and father. Although it may seem that the only connection between these characters is their more or less successful balancing on the edge of the law, the reader soon begins to suspect that they are connected by much more. The plot is complemented by a third narrative line that reaches back to pre-war times. This allows us to follow not only the gradual resolution of the detective plot but also how easily a person can become a victim of indifference, anger, and historical events, and how fatal the consequences of expired justice can be.
