Description
The work of Jan Mukařovský rightfully belongs to the golden fund of Czech, as well as world literary science and aesthetics. The necessity to critically analyze and evaluate the contribution of his structural concepts, as well as his later works, where he publicly distanced himself from structuralism, is evident. The aim of the monograph is to present the life and work of Jan Mukařovský in a broader context of domestic and foreign literary science and aesthetics. It depicts not only Mukařovský's life and the formation of his scientific career but also his personal relationships and his social and political activities. The central part of the work is dedicated to analyses of the fundamental principles of Mukařovský's structural poetics and aesthetics.
