Description
The monograph follows the book Czech Literary Romanticism (Host 2012). It focuses on literature stemming from the French Parnassus and representing one of the key discourses in the Czech context at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. In the prolegomena, Aleš Haman recapitulates the history of the use of the term Parnassism in Czech literary studies and clarifies the motivation for its reintroduction, Jiří Pelán summarizes the form of the French Parnassus, while Dalibor Tureček and Peter Zajac propose a model of Czech and Slovak Parnassism. The case study section is dedicated to key authors, the more general issues of Parnassian prose, and the modification of Parnassism by decadence. The appendix addresses the genre issues of the ballad within the discourses of the late nineteenth century.
