Three young people don period costumes from the eighteenth century. They are celebrating the solstice. However, they are unaware that they are being watched. A man in the shadows waits. The celebration will soon come to an end. At the police station in Ystad, there is a summer calm. Suddenly, however, a shocking blow strikes. One of the colleagues is murdered in his apartment. Kurt Wallander, as the lead investigator, is forced to delve into the innermost secrets of a respected friend. Among other things, he finds a photograph of the young people in costumes. After uncovering their identities, the summer calm transforms into a terrifying nightmare. Wallander, who is recovering from his father's death while also facing his own deteriorating health, tracks the murderer. His only clue is a picture of a woman whom, it seems, no one in Sweden knows. Somewhere, a ruthless murderer is on the loose, and Wallander is always one step behind in his pursuit.
