Description
Within the context of the national revival literature, the reflective poem The Sublimity of Nature represents a significant attempt at challenging poetry comparable to the peak works of contemporary European literature. The author found new possibilities for Czech poetry that surpass the Puchmajer tradition. The text was prepared (including the first magazine version The Sublimity of Nature) and commented on by Robert Ibrahim. The prose Journey to Italy is inspired by a trip that a Pole undertook as an aide to the Austrian sub-marshal Franz Koller. In its genre, it represents the first major work of revival prose. Our edition is based on the text prepared for Odeon in the late 1970s by Alexandr Stich (under the name Felicitas Wünschová) and revised by Markéta Selucká. The commentary on Journey to Italy was written by the expert on the contemporary Czech and European literary context, Zdeněk Hrbata.
