Description
A chair emerges from the thick fog on the road. Sitting on it is a life-sized puppet. An elderly lawyer slams on the brakes and gets out of the car. It is the last thing he will ever do. After Commissioner Kurt Wallander kills a man in the line of duty, he falls into a depression fueled by alcohol. During long, lonely walks along the Danish coast, he comes to the decision that his time in the police force is over. However, an old friend seeks him out, asking for help in investigating the suspicious death of his father. Kurt wants nothing to do with it and is preparing to resign. That same day, he learns that his friend has been found shot dead. He immediately changes his mind and returns to work to investigate the double murder case. Gradually, he uncovers a tangled web of fraud and suspects a perpetually smiling face behind it all. Is there a connection? But while Wallander is on the trail of the killer, someone is on Wallander's trail.
