Description
An extraordinary work of Czech ethnography, first published in 1900 (later in incomplete reprints in 1947 and 2001). Augusta Šebestová, a native of Kobylí, collected unique testimonies from the then inhabitants of over twenty-five villages in the Hustopečsko, Hodonínsko, and Břeclavsko regions: recipes, fairy tales, spells, but also curses, songs, rhymes, and especially customs that people practiced throughout their lives, literally from cradle to grave. This is how she practically constructed the book. Her work is a treasure of folk literature. Undoubtedly, it belongs to the golden fund of national culture. It is being published in its entirety for the first time, including additions published after the author's death in 1933.
