Description
Writer Jiří Klobouk left for abroad in 1968 and has lived in New York for the last eleven years. From his multi-layered work, published both in the USA and in the Czech Republic, he has selected five short stories that share a common denominator - they are set in a North American environment. They also demonstrate the author's mastery of the form of drama, as confirmed by the very first story, Mainly Beethoven, which deals with escaped prisoners and what awaits them in freedom. In The Besieged City, it is also a highly dramatic situation, as the title of the story suggests. In short, from story to story, the author's work keeps us engaged and confirms that Czech literature has one of the most interesting creators of the short story genre in Jiří Klobouk.
