Amerikán z Lužic – Příkazský Štěpán (2013)

The memoir book of the 'last gajdoš of Slovácko', as Štěpán Příkazský (1902-1993), a prominent figure from Podluží, is often referred to, presents his story of a young man driven to Argentina by unrequited love. There, he meets the legendary travel duo Hanzelka and Zikmund (their visit among the compatriots is a must in the memoirs). Both write an entire chapter about his fate in their highly successful opus There Beyond the River is Argentina. Příkazský first describes twenty years in Podluží, his childhood, youth, and adolescence spent in Lužice and Mikulčice, followed by the difficult life of an emigrant on the South American continent. The book, which ends with the family's return to Czechoslovakia in 1950, captures more than 50 years of the last century.
