Burian-Křivinka: Architekti 2009-2019 (2020)

The lavish publication presents the latest works of leading Brno architects Aleš Burian and Gustav Křivinka. They belong to a generation that entered professional life at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s and very quickly received the opportunity to design and build independently. They are connected not only by their generational affiliation but also by a value orientation that is reflected in their work, ensuring them a distinctive position on the map of contemporary Czech architecture. Characteristic features of their work include the search for new possibilities of interpreting architectural and construction traditions, respect for place and context, as well as an interest in the material and craftsmanship aspects of building. Through their work, they demonstrate the paradox that it is possible to be both conservative and modern at the same time. Their architecture is marked by a certain solidity that is not staid: they manage to transform classical tradition, smooth modernist elegance, and inspiration from the architecture of anonymous builders into a contemporary and functional new whole. Their houses serve people well, among other reasons, because they are readable and do not lose the human scale. They show similar consideration for the place and landscape as they do for people.
