The lavish publication presents the latest work of Brno architect Petr Pelčák. He belongs to a generation that entered professional life at the turn of the eighties and nineties and very quickly received the opportunity to design and build independently. Like other members of the architectural association Obecní dům Brno, which Pelčák founded, his positions have a clear value orientation that is reflected in his work. Characteristic features of his work include the search for new possibilities of interpreting architectural and building traditions, respect for place and context, as well as an interest in the material and craftsmanship aspects of building. Pelčák's work demonstrates the paradox that it is possible to be both conservative and modern at the same time. His architecture is marked by solidity, which is not, however, staid: he is able to transform classical tradition, smooth modernist elegance, and inspiration from the architecture of anonymous builders into a contemporary and functional new whole. His houses serve people well, among other reasons, because they are readable to them and do not lose the human scale even where it seems to be precluded by the size of the building.
