Description
Adolf Rossi (1920–2000) is one of the exceptionally interesting figures in Czech amateur photography of the 20th century. Although his work was largely concluded over fifty years ago, no monograph has yet been published that presents the vast breadth of his creations. Rossi's work was influenced by both the pictorialism of the early last century and the avant-garde, as well as the period's popular photography of everyday life. However, Adolf Rossi holds a unique place in the history of Czech photography for another reason. From the beginning, he related his work more to foreign countries and international photographic salons, which he entered with unprecedented intensity and enthusiasm. Over twenty years, he participated in more than nine hundred competitions and achieved extraordinary success in them. Rossi's photographs, along with a carefully preserved collection of salon catalogs and awards, provide an exceptionally detailed insight into the work of an amateur photographer in the 1950s and 1960s.
