Description
F. T. M. are the initials of Filippa Tommase Marinetti – an artist whose name most of us have probably heard in school, but who likely blends into the mass of other established classics. Yet Marinetti was never a classic; he was a rebel and a bohemian who challenged traditional art and the social conventions of his time, becoming the founder of the first avant-garde movement – futurism. We have mostly read or heard about this in connection with slogans or phrases like speed, modernization, aggression, glorification of war, or fascism. The author offers more than just a description of this artistic movement; she narrates a fascinating story of how art and politics intertwined in the early decades of the 20th century, revealing the extraordinary fates of specific personalities and presenting some well-known as well as tourist-overlooked places associated with futurism. In addition to an informed historical account, the book also serves as a useful 'futurist guidebook' that can be packed in your luggage when traveling to sunny Italy. It is accompanied by rich visual material and includes translations of essential futurist manifestos, some of which have not yet been translated into Czech.
