A tragic story of a man and three women close to him set in a 'strange' inn, behind which lies an absurd misunderstanding. The return of the 'prodigal son' to the homeland he left many years ago, to his mother and sister, touches on eternal themes of guilt and punishment, fate, the ability to communicate, and revolt against a bleak life, love between people, and last but not least, the existence of God. Camus set the story in the 'unwelcoming landscape' of the Czech Republic. The play by the Nobel Prize-winning author is published in a new, previously unpublished version in our country, translated by Ivan Zmatlík, as the 142nd volume of the D series.
