Apparently Shakespeare's first comedy, but also one of the most frequently performed and published, deals in an original way with the eternal theme of drama and literature in general, namely love and relationships between men and women. It tells the story of two sisters of opposing natures: the gentle, fragile, and romantic Bianca, who can choose among courtly suitors, and the temperamental and unruly Katherine, who is pursued by the manly and outspoken brute Petruchio. This comedy, rich in plots and verbal humor, delights the hearts of viewers and readers even today, when the view of men and women is worlds apart from the conditions in Shakespeare's time. In the translation by Břetislav Hodek, it is published as the 152nd volume of the D edition.
