Even in this Lorca drama, which forms a trilogy with his The House of Bernarda Alba and Blood Wedding, we find a deep understanding of the fates of women and their difficult position in rural Spain at the beginning of the twentieth century. The titular character of the play, Yerma, desperately longs for the birth of a child, which her marriage to a man she did not choose cannot provide. The tragic story of an unfulfilled dream, revealed to the audience in a poetic drama, and the image of a society that does not allow Yerma to realize her dream without violating written and unwritten rules, is among the author's peak works. It is published in a translation by Antonín Přidal as the 191st volume of the D edition.
