Description
One of the pinnacle works of William Shakespeare, his shortest, most concise, and perhaps most brutal tragedy loosely draws from ancient Scottish history. The brave and king-loyal nobleman Macbeth is tempted by the forces of evil embodied by the witches. He succumbs to the desire for power and commits regicide. Evil begets evil, and the rivers of blood cannot be stopped. Macbeth struggles in vain with his conscience and sows destruction. The play is published in a translation by M. Lukeš as the 129th volume of the D edition.
