Description
The most frequently performed comedy by the ancient Greek dramatist is among the gems of ancient literature. The titular heroine of the play Lysistrata convinces Athenian, Spartan, and other women from Greek states participating in the Peloponnesian War to force their husbands to make peace. Her idea to deny men the fulfillment of their erotic desires leads, after many twists and turns, to a victorious goal. The play is published in the traditional translation by Ferdinand Stiebitz as volume 148 of edition D.
