Dominik Duka - Poslední slovo – Duka Dominik, Šmíd Marek (2026)

This Czech-language book presents an unfinished interview with Cardinal Dominik Duka, conducted by historian Marek Šmíd in the spring and summer of 2025 at the Archbishop’s Palace in Hradčany. The completion of this unique text, which Father Dominik regarded as his “last word,” was prevented by his death. The interview covers the years from Duka’s birth in 1943 to 1990, offering an engaging account of difficult and even harsher times, told with perspective, dignity and understanding, as well as the remarkable erudition for which the former Archbishop of Prague was known. The book also contains texts and personal memories from figures connected with church life, including Pope Leo XIV, archbishops, bishops, priests and religious figures, as well as presidents, other politicians, artists and members of the armed forces whose lives were touched by the cardinal. The final section includes important texts by Dominik Duka from the last period of his life. Personal photographs from his archive complete this unusual and authentic testimony to a man who belongs among the major figures of modern Czech history.
