Description
In this Czech-language book, Zuzana Maléřová offers her personal view of the Nordic countries and describes her relationship with landscapes that may seem harsh but are diverse, changing and full of contrasts, with both the northern lights and the midnight sun. Above all, she conveys feelings of joy and trust, as well as her connection with nature, public spaces and modern architecture. Her travels are neither adventurous nor dangerous; instead, she visits places where people and animals live and flowers bloom, even when they are Arctic. The chapters take readers to Denmark and its islands, including Bornholm, the autonomous Faroe Islands and Greenland, as well as Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland and the autonomous Åland Islands. In the afterword, Daniel Bambas describes the book as one about love and praises Maléřová’s ability to look into the soul of people, landscapes, countries, buildings, places and objects. First published in 2025 to mark a personal anniversary in the author’s life, the book features an exceptional graphic design by Lucie Soutner Zelená. After receiving a strong response from critics and readers and quickly selling out its first edition, it now appears in an expanded second edition with a newly designed cover.
