More and more publications are dedicated to Jan Žižka, yet much less attention is paid to his successor Prokop Holý. The well-known and beloved author of historical books, Jan Bauer, addresses this debt in the anniversary year of the Hussite Revolution, in a knowledgeable and engaging manner. It is fitting: after all, the epithet 'the Great' is not just given to anyone! Prokop's origins and life before he tied his fate to the Hussites are not very well known. The same applies to his more famous predecessor, yet there are interesting differences between 'Brother Žižka' and 'Sir Prokop,' as is already evident from this usual titling. Prokop Holý, called the Great, was not only a victorious leader of field armies but also an educated clergyman and an outstanding diplomat. So let us return to the tumultuous times of gallant rides, witness the council disputes and negotiations 'at the highest level,' travel through Central Europe... and experience the rise and fall of a remarkable personality, recognized even by opponents – not excluding the top of the secular and ecclesiastical hierarchy. Such a reputation is earned, and such a mark in history is left only by exceptional figures, and Prokop Holý undoubtedly belongs among them.
