The book is a parallel edition of the German original text by Martin Heidegger and the Czech translation by Jiří Němec. The translation has been thoroughly editorially checked and revised for this current third edition. The history of this first Czech book translation of the works of the German philosopher Martin Heidegger (September 26, 1889 – May 26, 1976) is described in the commentary. The translation was published – under the title On Truth and Being – twice so far, in 1971 by the Vyšehrad publishing house (with most of the print run being immediately pulped) and in 1993 in a co-edition by the Mladá fronta and Vyšehrad publishing houses. The commentary also publishes for the first time the original foreword by Jiří Němec to the edition planned by Mladá fronta at the turn of the sixties and seventies, in which he wrote, among other things: "If we want to orient ourselves in Heidegger's spiritual landscape, let us start by reading some of his works in the original. The traces captured will then lead us to further works... And perhaps the essay Vom Wesen der Wahrheit is particularly suitable for the first encounter with Heidegger's thought. This lecture constitutes a kind of turning point in Heidegger's work, the 'axis of the turnstile', from which connections lead both to his earlier and later works." Volume...
