Description
Malte loves numbers and diligently trains for the mathematics olympiad, which he is determined to win. He is the only student at his school to qualify for the regional round. At home, however, chaos breaks out when his seventeen-year-old stepsister Josefine moves in for four weeks. She finds fault with everything, skips school and makes Malte’s life difficult at every opportunity. How is he supposed to concentrate on studying? Then Lejla joins his mathematics club and completely confuses his feelings. When it all becomes too much and he wants to give up the olympiad, help comes from an unexpected quarter. This sensitive novel is about family, mathematics, finding one’s place in the world and the fact that life, unlike the number eight, is simply not perfectly symmetrical. The contents are in Czech. In 2022, the book was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize.
