Description
Carved pumpkins, spooky masks, ghosts, and bats – simply Halloween. Some people reject it, others enjoy it, and many don’t quite understand it. Our book explains its origins in a way that is understandable for children. It introduces Halloween superstitions but also reminds us of All Saints' Day and the Day of the Dead, traditionally called Dušičky. It shows how myths about ghosts originated, how people in the past dealt with spirits and demons, and how we can remember those who have preceded us on the journey to eternity. Lída Holá is the author and co-author of several textbooks and teaching materials for teaching Czech as a foreign language, including Czech Step by Step, Czech Express, and Czech Adapted Prose (www.czechstepbystep.cz). The book "Mom, Dad, what is Halloween?" is her first publication for children. Lucie Martišková is a Czech illustrator and artist. In the past, she has illustrated several books for both children and adults. She organizes several solo exhibitions of her paintings each year. She works in the Lumart art studio — www.lumart.cz.
