Description
The anniversary edition of Milan Machovec's key work, a book that could not be published in Czechoslovakia during the 1980s when it was created and began to be published abroad before it was officially released. There are now more than twenty such editions. And since the post-November edition and the 2003 edition are sold out, we have prepared a reissue after twenty years, newly supplemented with a foreword by Pavel Žďárský. Machovec's penetrating analysis of how to perceive Jesus's message, like the message itself, loses none of its urgency and relevance. Whether we approach Jesus's message and the history of its presentation from positions emphasizing the divine essence or with critical restraint or a sense of encountering an absurd religious dogma. "Everyone cursed me for the book: Catholics, saying I was a terrible atheist and heathen, but also atheists, asking how a philosopher could be so accommodating to the church and religion?!" comments the author on the book's fate. "But a perceptive reader will always find a way to Jesus," he adds. The book is characterized by Machovec's active approach to history, philosophy, and a personally carried dialogical ethos. The third Czech edition is published in the series of Machovec's books.
