Language – in our case, Czech – not only connects all members of the linguistic community, enabling mutual communication, but also contributes to how we understand the world, what cultural values we share, and how we pass them on. These are the main themes of the presented publication. The authors aim to spark readers' interest in exploring language and thinking about how language shapes our lives. The book is primarily addressed to educators, current and future teachers (not only) of the Czech language, offering them ideas on how to engage students in unconventional ways, guiding them on an interesting, even adventurous journey of discovering their mother tongue. The authorial collective presents a cognitive and cultural approach to language and its use in education in a reader-friendly manner. The teacher, and subsequently the student, learns what language reveals about ourselves and the cultural history of our community; in other words, "what world lies behind the words." The reader gradually realizes that the key to some insights is something they already know from everyday communication. The authors lead them to reflect on where certain metaphors come from, what motivates commonly used phrases, such as being in good hands, making shoulders, standing firmly on the ground, having a knot in the stomach...
