Description
The next volume in the Adapted Czech Prose series brings perhaps the most famous work of fiction published after 1989. It introduces readers to the acclaimed novel by the bestselling contemporary Czech author Michal Viewegh. It is intended for students at B1 level and above. The humorously toned narrative about the life of a Czech family captures the atmosphere in Czechoslovak society during the socialist era of the 1960s to 1980s. The shortened and adapted text of the 1992 novel is supplemented with exercises focused on developing communication skills and specifically selected grammatical and lexical phenomena. Understanding is also aided by illustrations from the well-known artist Nikkarin and related activities. A new element in the exercises includes tasks related to Czechoslovak and Czech realities. The book not only includes audio with a complete recording of the presented text (available online here), but also a DVD with the original version of the successful film adaptation of the novel. Each chapter therefore also contains tasks for working with the film Wonderful Years Under the Dog. The publication concludes with an answer key to the exercises. The book, which is intended for intermediate and advanced students (from level B1+ of the Common European Framework of Reference), can be used for independent reading or self-study, or as material for classroom work…
