Description
The author of the book deals with the work of Vladimír Raffel, a writer-doctor who ultimately chose his medical profession over literature. His work is bounded by the years 1927 and 1930 (not counting short stories and essays published in magazines and the minor treatise The Ideal of a Harmonious Person, published under the pseudonym Karel Nešeda), which does not represent a particularly extensive period. Nevertheless, Raffel left an indelible mark in literary history. The author of this book has decided to focus precisely on this literary mark, on the analysis and interpretation of the collection of Raffel's works, which includes both published short story collections, a novel, and the aforementioned reflective treatise, as well as short stories, poems, translations, essay-like articles, and reviews that Raffel contributed to various periodicals until 1936, along with manuscript texts from the author's estate. Attention is also given to contemporary and historical reflections on Raffel's work, from which broader questions arise regarding the relationship between the author’s specific speech acts and the contemporary discourse, a kind of confrontation with the language of the time.
