Description
Modernism, whether understood in any periodization (long or short), undoubtedly brought a radical transformation of the world view, and this occurred in very different fields of human activity from visual arts, architecture, literature, philosophy, linguistics to eschatological and futuristic visions in the thoughts of politicians and ideologists. A specific problem is the dramatic clashes between the individual intentions of individuals and the collective intention represented by groups sharing the same belief. Analyzing the establishment and transformation of paradigms, newly emerging dictionaries, metaphors, and rhetorical acts that shaped various versions of modernist visions and ideas was the aim of the conference Dictionaries of Modernists and Paradigms of Modernity, which took place at the Moravian Library in Brno on September 19 and 20, 2018. The eponymous publication brings studies that emerged from the contributions and discussions that took place there (authors: Kenichi Abe, Dominik Bálan, Michal Bauer, Petr Bubeníček, Veronika Černíková, Martin Dvořák, Erik Gilk, Peter Chvojka, Vera Kaplická Yakimova, Tomáš Kubíček, Marie Langerová, Vladimír Papoušek, Ondřej Pešek, Vanda Pickett, Ondřej Selner, David Skalický, Jan Staněk, Eva Štědroňová, Martin Tichý).
