Description
Martha and Betty, two inseparable friends, embark on an involuntary journey to Switzerland. In the back seat of their car sits the terminally ill father of one of them. This is supposed to be his last, definitive journey – Kurt intends to undergo euthanasia in Switzerland. However, nothing turns out as we expect. Everything changes during their trip, and nothing will be the same again. In her book, Lucy Fricke tells the story of women caught off guard by middle age, as they never see themselves as having grown up. She narrates farewells that none of us will escape. She tells of fathers who leave far too soon. With lively dialogues and dark humor, the author depicts a somewhat grotesque journey south, through Switzerland and Italy to a lonely Greek island, while subtly delving deeper into the stories and fates of the main characters. And her main question is not where we come from, but how we ended up where we are and whether there is even a way back.
