A selection of poetry by the poet, prose writer, dramatist, critic, essayist, and translator Otakar Theer (1880–1917) brings his verses in a standalone book after more than seventy years. It consists of a cross-section of all Theer's poetry collections as well as verses not included in collections. It is supplemented by a comprehensive afterword by the volume's editor, poet, essayist, and translator Vladimír Janovic. Otakar Theer began creating during his high school studies and published from 1897. In 1902, he co-founded the Circle of Czech Writers and worked for several years as a librarian in the literary department of the Artistic Society. He was part of the circle of writers around S. K. Neumann and his villa in Olšany, and regularly attended the literary salon of Anna Lauermannová-Mikschová for many years. He was the initiator of the Almanac for 1914. He published poetry collections Háje, kde se tančí (1897), Výpravy k Já (1900), Úzkosti a naděje (1911), and Všemu navzdory (1916). Posthumously, the poetic drama Faëthón (1916/1918) and the volume Poetic Legacy (1924) were published. He translated Oscar Wilde's play Salome (1905) from English and Pierre Loti's book Chryzantéma (1905) from French.
