The book Fictional Worlds of Czech Realistic Prose organically connects the literary-theoretical framework of fictional worlds with the traditional literary-historical concept of realistic prose in the context of Czech literature. The theory of fictional worlds has already become sufficiently established in the Czech literary-theoretical environment; however, this establishment has also brought about certain misunderstandings, likely arising from a terminological confusion between fictional and fictive: that is, the theory of fictional worlds primarily deals with fictive and fantastic worlds, and that the part of literature that produces less exclusive worlds lies beyond the scope of examination by this theory. It is clear that the best response to such a limited understanding of the applicability of the theory of fictional worlds is its application to the area of literature that produces the 'least fictive worlds' – to realistic literature and its most important genre, the realistic novel. The monograph is divided into three parts. The first part summarizes general reflections on the establishment of the specific genre of the realistic novel, both in general artistic contexts and in specific literary-historical and poetological contexts.
