Description
The author deals in the book with the work of Olga Barényiová, a Czech-German writer who published several works in Czech between 1941 and 1945 and, after her departure to Austria, several controversial anti-Czech novels. She then completely disappeared from the domestic horizon, although her novels and plays had a rich reflection from reviewers in their time. Information about the author's life is very scarce and sometimes takes the form of mythical sensationalism. Therefore, the author decided to focus not on the life story of the author but primarily on a comprehensive analysis and interpretation of the entire corpus of her works – novels, short stories, plays, and essays. He also pays attention to contemporary reviews and journalistic reflections on the work of Olga Barényiová. In doing so, he raises more general questions concerning the relationship between the author's rhetorical strategies and contemporary public discourse or the transformation of the author's vocabulary in relation to language, locality, and time. The book includes an illustrative and documentary appendix. – Published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
