Description

The publication summarizes contributions from an international workshop held in November 2011 in Prague. The seminar addressed the topic of the Shoah/Holocaust in literature, theater, and film in the 1950s and 1960s. It followed previous workshops in Gießen, Germany, and Łódź, Poland (2010, 2011). The individual contributions focus particularly on Czech and Polish literature (Jiří Weil, Norbert Frýd, Jan Otčenášek, Ladislav Fuks, Josef Škvorecký, Adolf Rudnicki, the discourse of the Shoah in Polish literature), drama and theater (Leon Kruczkowski, Ireneusz Iredyński, Hedda Zinner, West German drama with the theme of the Shoah), film (The Cremator, Jacob the Liar), but also on children's drawings in Terezín or the depiction of the Shoah from a child's perspective. The contributions are published in English and German in collaboration with the Center for Jewish Studies at Charles University.
