Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky (1863–1945) was one of the extraordinary figures in science, whose legacy transcends the boundaries of disciplines and nations. He was the founder of biogeochemistry, a key figure in the emergence of modern geochemistry and radiogeology, and a pioneer in the research of radioactivity. His conception of the biosphere – a dynamic whole in which living and non-living components are inseparably interconnected – foreshadowed the emergence of modern ecology and introduced the fascinating concept of the noosphere, the sphere of reason, in which human thought becomes a planetary force.

This book, the first original Czech monograph dedicated to Vernadsky, not only follows his extraordinary scientific career but also explores the broader intellectual and ethical dimensions of his thinking.
