Slované: nacionalismus a národní stereotypy – Kosáková Hana (2023)

The book Slavs: Nationalism and National Stereotypes continues a series of publications from the Young Slavists Conference associated with the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. Eight scholarly studies in Czech, Russian, and Ukrainian from participants of the sixteenth conference edition from three countries (Czech Republic, Croatia, Ukraine) are divided into two main sections (Literature, History and Culture). Representatives of the emerging scientific generation examine through partial thematic probes how individual Slavic environments in literature, journalism, and philosophical thought reflected not only themselves but also neighboring nations and states. Contributors to the anthology demonstrate how some notions from a distant past remain potentially dangerous, or conversely, how seemingly unrealistic and perhaps fantastical visions unfortunately become reality in today's world. In the context of ongoing issues in our part of Europe, they point out how revived nationalist mythology and historically given prejudices can influence the functioning of modern society and how easily social consciousness can be manipulated with their help.
