Description
This monograph represents the first attempt at a comprehensive analysis of the political, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries. It highlights specific areas of cooperation in which both states have earned a good reputation, and which can thus be built upon in the future. It pays attention to the successes of Czech immigrants in Chile, the reasons for the growing economic exchange in recent years, and cooperation in the academic and scientific fields. However, the book also addresses the limits of rapprochement and some controversial issues. Surprisingly strong political and cultural ties have been maintained by both states even during periods of interrupted diplomatic relations. A prime example of the bond between the two countries is the personality of Pablo Neruda, one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. In the Czech context, the names of politicians Salvador Allende and Augusto Pinochet also resonate very strongly. All of this makes the Czech-Chilean relationship unique and remarkable.
