Description
Between 1914 and 1923, from the beginning of World War I to the establishment of modern Turkey, three Christian civilizations – Armenian, Assyrian/Syrian, and Greek – were destroyed in the territory of the Ottoman Empire. Approximately 2 million people were murdered, and the others had to leave their homeland, even though they had lived there for centuries. The presented anthology offers two hundred and fifty eyewitness testimonies, memories, notes, documents, etc., divided into three parts dedicated to each community, as recounted by the victims of the violence or their descendants. This is a rare historical material, compelling personal accounts of the suffering and hardships experienced. The respondents recorded these not for their own glory, but with a sincere effort to ensure that such horrific acts do not occur in the future.
