Cestami života – Vlčková Věra (2024)

The story of the book 'Cestami života' takes place from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. It depicts the life journeys of the Matěj Pokorný family, a brewer and cellar master at a former princely brewery in Česká Skalice, where he settled permanently, remarried after losing his first wife, and experienced a second, happy marriage with his beloved Fanynka. They both enjoy their children and lovingly build a shared home. A life full of joys and worries is harshly disrupted by World War I. As a member of the home guard, fifty-year-old Matěj had to enlist. He returned from the war with an illness that forced him to leave his beloved brewing profession, and despite the devoted care of his family, he succumbed to the consequences of the war after several years. Fanynka supported the family by sewing laundry for merchants, maintained the family home, and selflessly helped their teenage children and friends. The family's fate continues with the story of their daughter Ludmila and son Ladislav, along with their later partners. They were affected by the crisis and especially by World War II. They found strength and mutual support in the background of their own families, in cooperation, love, and selflessness – values they learned from their parents.
