Description
The book discusses the development of the minor nobility at the turn of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period in Bohemia. It was a complex process influenced by a number of factors. The situation was further complicated by the fact that in the 15th century, the non-aristocratic nobility was divided into two groups: lower nobles and higher knights. The study operates with the thesis that this was a real division of the nobility, meaning that for this period we must account for its division into three estates (although the term estate is still quite problematic at this time): lords, knights, and minor nobles. On one hand, the minor nobility is studied through the lens of legal documents with nationwide validity and probes from various corners of the country. On the other hand, various areas of life of this group are viewed through the lens of sources from the historical region of Chrudimsko, which allows for tracking the manifestations of broader changes in the territory of the region.
