The publication summarizes the results of interdisciplinary research on selected battle sites of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 in the area of Eastern Bohemia, which were examined using both non-destructive and destructive archaeological research methods. However, a significant degree of interdisciplinarity was necessary for the interpretation of the findings, which also involves the contemporary evaluation of specific historical sources and literature closely related to archaeological topics. In all thematic areas of the study, the observed battlefield landscape always played a crucial role, which, according to all indications, significantly influenced the overall sequence of historical events in the first weeks of the military campaign. It is therefore appropriate to pay greater attention to the reconstruction of its historical form from 1866 and the war memorials that have survived to this day. Matouš Holas's book is based on the author's dissertation, which he successfully defended at the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Hradec Králové in 2022.
