Description
The monograph presents the life and public activities of Friedrich (Fritz) Plachký, a Silesian originally from a German-speaking intellectual family, who made a significant mark on the life of Hranice, a center of the Moravian Gate, from the late 1860s to the early 20th century. As a lawyer, a very active public figure, and a municipal and regional politician, he spent the latter part of his life in Vienna and was almost completely erased from the collective memory of the community where he once worked. Therefore, the author of the book attempts both to rediscover this (semi)forgotten Austrian German and to demystify his personality, balancing the prevailing negative image of Plachký that was successfully created by his former opponents.
