It contains a translation of the first book of the treatise On the Generation of Animals (De generatione animalium), a textual appendix with selected passages from other biological writings, and interpretations of selected related topics (scientific method, theory of causality, classification of animals, the issue of the soul and life...). As a result, the book can also serve as a distinct introduction to Aristotle's thinking through the prism of his science of the living.
