The book about the birds of Hradec Králové is the first comprehensive compilation of information about the city's avifauna. From 1985 to 1989 and again from 2009 to 2015, a collective ornithological research was conducted here to map the nesting distribution of birds. The unique dataset obtained allows for the documentation of the development of avifauna in the city over the last approximately quarter-century, during which the city itself has also undergone significant transformation. Each observed bird species is treated separately in the book, with authors summarizing historical and current reports of its occurrence, adding distribution maps and photographs of the inhabited environment in Hradec Králové. Subsequent chapters describe the biology of birds in urban environments, the history of ornithology, bird conservation, and the development of the environment in Hradec Králové, a complete ornithological bibliography, a list of all observed bird species, and a number of other accompanying data. The book is intended for many different readers: nature lovers interested in the lives of birds, ornithologists for whom it serves as a document on the distribution of individual species, conservationists who may use it as a guide for protective measures, and generally anyone interested in learning more about our feathered co-inhabitants.
