Dlouhý život s archeologií - Rozhovor s Pavlem Fojtíkem – Motyková Karla (2022)

PhDr. Karla Motyková, DrSc., born Šneidrová (born May 20, 1930 in Prague), is part of the first post-war generation of Czech archaeologists who fundamentally shaped the direction of the field in the second half of the 20th century and contributed to the establishment and development of the modern Archaeological Institute of the Academy of Sciences. Karla Motyková was a leading figure in protohistoric archaeology, leading one of the most extensive systematic research projects in Bohemia (at Závist), managing the prehistoric department of the Archaeological Institute, and for many years editing the prestigious archaeological journal Památky archeologické. She also lectured at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. Her domain particularly included the La Tène and Roman periods. The presented book may be a significant contribution to the understanding of the development of modern Czech archaeology, encompassing the beginnings of the Academy of Sciences, the normalization period, and the complex transformation after the Velvet Revolution. At the same time, it leads readers to a deeper understanding of archaeology as such, as the contemplation of one's own field and its possibilities for knowledge runs like a common thread throughout our conversation.
