The monograph analyzes the remarkable development of Czech-Uruguayan relations over the past century. Through archival documents and extensive scholarly literature, it presents a number of previously unknown and surprising facts. Despite several tense moments, the relations between the two countries were never interrupted, making the relationship quite exceptional compared to other Latin American countries. Notably, the solidarity shown by the Uruguayan government towards Czechoslovakia during the Nazi occupation was significant. The book also demonstrates that despite the great geographical distance, the two countries are close in many respects and are therefore exposed to similar challenges. The main ambition is to highlight specific areas of cooperation in which the Czech Republic and Uruguay have earned a good reputation and on which they can build in the future. In this way, the book aims to contribute to the successful development of bilateral relations in the new century.
